ANSSOSA 2002 Year supports menstrual hygiene, unveils 25th anniversary legacy project plan

Anloga (Volta Region) May, 2026

The 2002 alumni of Anlo Senior High School dubbed “Elite ANSSOSA 2002 Year Group” has held a series of impactful activities as part of its annual homecoming and anniversary celebrations, marking 24 years of excellence and continued contribution since completing school.

The two-day programme, organised in partnership with the iLead Foundation, took place on Friday, May 29, 2026 and Saturday, May 30, 2026, at the school’s premises and featured a key intervention focused on menstrual hygiene support.

As part of the initiative, sanitary pads were donated to female students to promote menstrual health management and improve school attendance and well-being among adolescent girls.

Beyond the donation exercise, the event included educational and motivational engagements covering a wide range of topical issues, including the importance of education, menstrual hygiene awareness, mental health, as well as personal security and safety. Students were encouraged to remain disciplined, focused, and intentional about both their academic performance and personal development.

A major highlight of the programme was the group’s visit to the proposed site of its 25th Anniversary Legacy Project, scheduled for implementation in 2027.

The project involves the construction of a six-unit modern washroom facility for both boys and girls, aimed at improving sanitation, hygiene, and convenience within the school environment.

The homecoming activities brought together members of the 2002-year group to reconnect with their alma mater and interact with current students, staff and management, strengthening bonds between past and present generations of the school community.

The programme climaxed on Saturday, May 30, 2026, with a fraternisation football and basketball match between the old students and current students. The sporting event is intended to foster unity, friendship, and sportsmanship within the school community and also to strengthen the ties between students and alumni groups

Speaking to veritasnewsgh, Mr Felix Afagbe, Chairman of the Elite ANSSOSA 2002 Year Group, explained that the donation and associated activities were deliberately aligned with World Menstrual Hygiene Day to help address challenges that affect girls during their menstrual cycle.

“This intervention is aimed at reducing the challenges girls face during menstruation, which often affects their class attendance and, in the long run, their academic performance,” he stated.

He also used the occasion to advise candidates writing the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) to remain focused on their studies and avoid any form of examination malpractice that could jeopardise their future and the reputation of the school.

Mr Newman Dziedzorve, Headteacher of the school, expressed gratitude on behalf of the administration and students, commending the alumni group for its continuous support and urging them to maintain their commitment to the development of the school.

“We appreciate your continuous remembrance of the school and encourage you to keep supporting us to make ANSECO great,” he noted.

Some student beneficiaries of the donation expressed their appreciation for the visit, noting that it had boosted their confidence. They said it was encouraging to know that prominent individuals had once passed through the same school, adding that it motivated them to study harder and make their teachers, alumni, and families proud.

Anlo Senior High School remains one of the most prestigious senior high schools in the Anlo area, noted for its excellent academic performance and strong co-curricular achievements, particularly in sports, quiz competitions, and cultural activities.

Stakeholders say continued support from alumni groups will further enhance the school’s academic performance as it aspires to attain Category “A” status in the Volta Region.
