Tourism Minister: Adwumawura Policy to Unlock of Jobs in Ghana’s Creative Sector

The Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts Madam Dzifa Ablah gomashie, has called on Ghanaians to patronise locally made products, stating that the government’s Adwumawura policy will create employment opportunities and strengthen the country’s creative economy.

Speaking during President John Dramani Mahama’s Central Regional tour, the Minister said the policy is designed to support creatives in the fashion, gastronomy, arts and other cultural industries through skills development and job creation.

“The policy on Adwumawura is in the interest of creatives in the fashion, gastronomy, art and other domains. We must take advantage of this policy to train more people and create more jobs,” the Minister stated.

Addressing residents during a community engagement at Apam alongside Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, the Minister also encouraged Ghanaians to consistently buy Made-in-Ghana products to sustain local creative businesses.

Speaking in Mfantse, the Minister highlighted the immense potential of Ghana’s culture and creativity to drive tourism and economic growth.

The Minister further noted that the National Film Authority and the Creative Arts Agency will serve as key links between the Ministry and stakeholders in the creative sector to ensure the successful implementation of government initiatives.

The Ketu South lawmaker called on Regional Ministers and Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) in the Region to identify tourism opportunities within their jurisdictions and work with the Ministry to develop them.

According to the Minister, the government’s decision to allocate 80 percent of the District Assemblies Common Fund directly to the assemblies presents an opportunity for local authorities to invest in heritage and tourism projects that can boost local economies.

Earlier during the President’s visit to the Cape Coast Castle, students from the School of Performing Arts staged a dramatic re-enactment depicting the history of slavery. Following the performance, President Mahama assured stakeholders that the government would provide increased budgetary support in 2027 for the restoration and preservation of Ghana’s forts and castles, reinforcing the country’s commitment to protecting its heritage and expanding tourism.
