Ghana Navy Leads Flood Rescue Operations in South Tongu

Sogakope, (Volta Region) June 30, 2026

The Ghana Navy, working with other security agencies, has carried out rescue and relief operations in flood-hit communities around Sogakope and Dabala in the South Tongu District following severe flooding that displaced residents on Monday.

Personnel from the Navy’s Special Boat Squadron deployed specialised rescue equipment, including a Combat Rubber Raiding Craft (CRRC), to reach communities cut off by floodwaters and evacuate stranded residents to safety. The operation also supported the delivery of humanitarian assistance to affected communities.

The rescue mission highlighted the challenges faced by elderly residents, many of whom were unable to evacuate because of limited mobility.

The Ghana Navy says the experience underscores the need for stronger community disaster preparedness, targeted evacuation plans for vulnerable groups and continued investment in specialised flood rescue capabilities.

The operation reaffirmed the Navy’s commitment to supporting civil authorities during national emergencies and demonstrated the importance of inter-agency collaboration in responding to natural disasters.
