Dzifa Gomashie Begins Flood Relief, Assures ‘No Victim Will Be Left Behind’

GAKLI, Volta Region — July 2026

The Member of Parliament for Ketu South, Madam Abla Dzifa Gomashie, has assured residents of flood-affected communities that no victim will be left behind as relief efforts continue across the constituency.

Addressing residents of Gakli during a presenting of relief items to victims of the recent flooding on Saturday July 11th, 2026, Madam Gomashie said the intervention marked only the first phase of a broader humanitarian response, stressing that other affected communities would receive similar support in the coming days.

“This marks the beginning of the relief exercise. Other affected communities across the constituency will receive their share of the relief items in the coming weeks,” she assured.

The relief package, presented in collaboration with the Ketu South Municipal Assembly, included 33 bags of rice, 13 cartons of cooking oil, 15 pairs of Wellington boots, five wheelbarrows, five shovels, and five rakes to support residents whose homes and livelihoods were affected by the recent heavy rains that inundated parts of the municipality.

The items were officially received by the Assembly Member for the Gakli Electoral Area on behalf of the community.

The donation followed an assessment tour by Member of Parliament to evaluate the extent of destruction caused by the floods, which displaced residents and caused significant damage to properties and livelihoods in several communities across Ketu South.

Accompanied by the Municipal Chief Executive, Mr. Nicholas Ezo Worclachie, the Minister assured her readiness to work closely with the Municipal Assembly to ensure that affected families receive timely assistance and the necessary support to recover from the disaster.

Reflecting on previous disasters that have affected the municipality, Madam Gomashie acknowledged the consistent support of President John Dramani Mahama, recalling his intervention during the devastating coastal sea erosion and the Volta River Authority (VRA) spillage that impacted several communities during her first term as Member of Parliament.

Madam Gomashie, who is also the Minister for Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts, stated that the welfare of her constituents remains a priority. She added that the ongoing relief exercise demonstrates the shared commitment of her office and the Municipal Assembly to stand with residents during periods of hardship.

Some residents present at the ceremony expressed appreciation for the gesture, describing the support as timely and a significant source of relief as they begin rebuilding their lives after the floods.

The presentation forms part of a broader emergency response initiative aimed at easing the burden on flood victims while government and local authorities continue efforts to address the humanitarian impact of the recent heavy rains across the municipality.
