Torgbi Tenuvi II Leads Resource Support for 300 Ketu South BECE Graduates’ Transition to SHS

Torgbi Tenuvi II, Youth and Development Chief of the Aflao Traditional Area, has announced a significant expansion of his educational support initiative to benefit some 300 of 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) graduates from Ketu South.
public and private basic schools across the Ketu South Municipality.
The initiative, which represents a significant increase from the 50 students he supported in 2025, is aimed at easing the financial burden on families and helping the beneficiaries make a smooth transition from Junior High School (JHS) to Senior High School (SHS).
According to Torgbi Tenuvi II, the beneficiaries were carefully and equitably selected from across the municipality to ensure that students from different communities had a fair opportunity to benefit from the intervention.

He congratulated all candidates who participated in the 2026 BECE, particularly those who distinguished themselves academically and brought honour to Ketu South.
“I wish to take this opportunity to salute and congratulate the nearly 5,000 students who participated in the just-ended BECE, and more importantly, commend those who have distinguished themselves with excellent results, thereby raising the flag of Ketu South high and making us proud.”
The 300 beneficiaries will receive essential items, including student mattresses, trunks, chop boxes and other materials required under their respective school prospectuses, to support their transition into second-cycle education.
The intervention is expected to provide significant relief to parents and guardians at a time when families face considerable expenses associated with sending their children to SHS.
Torgbi Tenuvi II, known in private life as Mr Felix Akonta Akakpo, said the initiative was driven by his concern that financial hardship should not prevent academically capable children from pursuing their education.
“Parents have many responsibilities, and this intervention seeks to lessen that burden. We want our children to begin their next educational journey with dignity, confidence and the basic materials they need to succeed.”
He urged parents and guardians of the selected beneficiaries not to purchase items covered by the initiative, as the support is intended to directly reduce the cost of preparing their wards for SHS.
“It deeply saddens me when a brilliant child passes his or her examination but is unable to further their education due to financial constraints,” he added.
Speaking to the veritasnewsgh.com Monday moto after the announcement, Torgbi Tenuvi II said the initiative is intended to complement Government’s ongoing Free Senior High School (Free SHS) policy by addressing some of the practical financial challenges families continue to face when their children enter second-cycle institutions.
He described the intervention as an investment in human capital, stressing that supporting a child to remain in school can have a lasting impact on the individual, the family and the wider community.
This program if initiated well would also motivate the 2027 BECE candidates who will enter JHS 3 when schools reopen this September as well as future BECE candidates, to take their education seriously.
A comprehensive assessment mechanism, he added, would be introduced to monitor the academic progress of beneficiaries and ensure that the support translates into improved educational outcomes.
During the interview, Mr Akakpo announced that there will be a brief ceremony to be held in September in partnership with the Ketu South Education Directorate to formally celebrate them as the items are handed over to them and bid them farewell to their next educational journey
Torgbi Tenuvi II also called on parents, traditional leaders, communities and other stakeholders to work together to create meaningful opportunities for young people.
“We must work collectively to build meaningful futures for our children and a stronger society. Human capital development remains indispensable to the progress of every nation.”
He said that, as Youth and Development Chief, he would continue to complement Government’s efforts through educational support and infrastructure development initiatives.
Parents and guardians of the 300 beneficiaries have been requested to submit their wards’ first-choice Senior High Schools to their respective school heads by close of work on Tuesday, August 26, 2026.
