Ghanaian referee Daniel Laryea has passed his latest FIFA fitness test, retaining his status as a FIFA Referee and Video Assistant Referee (VAR)
The achievement comes after a rare setback for the experienced official, who failed his annual FIFA fitness test for the first time after 20 consecutive years of successfully passing the assessment.
Laryea attributed the previous failure to the demands of combining elite-level refereeing with postgraduate studies and extensive international travel.
He is currently pursuing an Master of Philosophy (MPhil) in Sports and Exercise Science at the University of Education, Winneba (UEW).
Laryea, one of Ghana’s most experienced soccer officials, was recently in the spotlight after serving as referee for the Morocco-Nigeria semi-final at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
His successful return to the FIFA fitness standard ensures he retains his international referee and VAR status.
