Daniel Dagba Urges Public to End Stigma Against Persons with Disabilities

Akatsi (Volta Region) July 15 2026
Mr Daniel Dagba, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Akatsi South in the Volta Region, has called on residents to desist from stigmatising and discriminating against Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), urging the public to create a more inclusive and supportive environment where they can also thrive.
He said persons with disabilities deserve equal respect, dignity and opportunities, stressing that disability should not be a basis for discrimination or social exclusion.
“Disability is not inability. Some of these people were not naturally born with disability, but due to circumstances, So we must create an inclusive society where they are treated with dignity, respect and given equal opportunities to contribute meaningfully to development.” Mr Dagba said
Mr Dagba made the call on Tuesday during a brief ceremony to present livelihood support items to selected PWDs in the municipality under the Disability Fund programme.

The MCE commended the Department of Social Welfare, Disability Fund Management Committee, and representatives of the Ghana Federation of Disability Organisations (GFD) in the municipality for their efforts in promoting the welfare and inclusion of PWDs.
He encouraged them to continue advocating for the rights and well-being of vulnerable persons while ensuring that support programmes reach those who genuinely need them.
Mr Dagba further reminded the public that the Ghana Persons with Disability Act provides legal protection for PWDs and warned that individuals who engage in acts that demean, discriminate against or violate their rights could face sanctions under the law.

Some PWDs who spoke to Veritasnewsgh.com after the ceremony expressed concern over the stigma, discrimination and ridicule they sometimes experience due to their conditions. However, they noted that continued support from state institutions and interventions such as the recent donation provide them with renewed hope, encouragement and a sense of acceptance within society.
“We appreciate this support because it shows that we are not forgotten. Many of us experience stigma because of our conditions, but interventions like this give us hope and the courage to contribute meaningfully to society.” A Beneficiary said
They appealed to authorities and stakeholders to strengthen the enforcement of disability-related laws to protect them from discrimination and ensure their full participation in society and also called for continued support and awareness creation to promote acceptance, respect and equal opportunities for all persons, regardless of their physical abilities.
Mr Daniel Dagba pledged the continued support of the Akatsi South Municipal Assembly to improve the well-being of Persons with Disabilities and create opportunities that will enable them to live more meaningful, dignified and productive lives.
