Akatsi South Assembly Supports PWDs with Livelihood Items for Economic Independence

Akatsi (Volta Region) – July 14th 2026

The Akatsi South Municipal Assembly has provided livelihood support items to some Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) under the Disability Fund initiative, aimed at promoting economic empowerment and improving the living conditions of beneficiaries within the municipality.

The presentation ceremony was held Tuesday morning at the forecourt of the Municipal Assembly hall, where a total of 43 persons benefited from the support

The items, which were presented to selected beneficiaries, included motor-tricycles, movable cassava mills with fuel, 360-litre deep freezers, double-door refrigerators, ice chests, industrial sewing and overlock machines, electrical appliances, liquid soap production materials, plastic chairs, vegetable grinding machines, and other business support equipment.

The intervention is expected to enable beneficiaries to establish new businesses or expand existing ones, thereby enhancing their income-generating capacity, reducing dependency and promoting greater social inclusion.

Presenting the items, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Akatsi South, Hon. Daniel Dagba, urged the beneficiaries to use the support responsibly to improve their livelihoods and build sustainable sources of income for themselves and their families.

He described the items as both an opportunity and a responsibility, encouraging beneficiaries to develop their businesses and extend support to others when they become successful.

“Use the support wisely, grow successful businesses, and when you are able, help others in your communities. The strongest communities are built when people succeed together and share their success with others,” Mr Dagba said.

The MCE commended the Social Welfare Department and the Disability Fund Management Committee for their efforts in identifying deserving beneficiaries, noting that the rigorous process ensured that the support reached individuals who genuinely needed assistance.

He explained that the initiative was funded through the five per cent allocation of the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF) dedicated to supporting persons living with disabilities across the country.

Some beneficiaries who spoke to Veritasnewsgh.com expressed excitement over the gesture, describing the intervention as a life-changing opportunity that would help them become more financially independent and contribute meaningfully to society.

They thanked the Akatsi South Municipal Assembly and the government for the support, pledging to maintain and utilise the items effectively to improve their businesses and livelihoods.

“This intervention is a life-changing opportunity for us. It will transform our livelihoods, reduce our dependence on others, and help us become self-reliant. We are grateful for the support and promise to put the items to good use.”

The initiative forms part of broader efforts by local authorities to promote inclusion, create economic opportunities, and improve the welfare of vulnerable groups within communities.
