Keta Municipal Hospital Signs MoU with Businessman to Expand Accident and Emergency Unit

Keta, (V/R) May 2026
The Keta Municipal Hospital has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Mr Kwaku Babylast Seglah, a businessman in Keta, to support the expansion of its Accident and Emergency (A&E) Unit.

The agreement, signed on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, marks a significant step toward enhancing emergency healthcare delivery within the Keta Municipality and its surrounding communities.

The initiative follows an earlier appeal by the hospital to stakeholders to assist in expanding the existing A&E facility, which has faced increasing pressure due to growing demand for timely and quality emergency services.

Under the terms of the MoU, the hospital will provide land or space for the project, while Mr. Seglah will fully fund and support the construction and development works.

The project, which has already commenced, will include the expansion of the emergency unit to incorporate additional wards, triage units, and waiting areas. It will also ensure the provision of essential utilities such as water, electricity, and sanitation facilities.

Hospital management noted that the project aligns with its broader strategic objectives and forms a key part of activities marking its centenary celebrations this year, with a strong focus on infrastructure development.

Management has therefore called on other stakeholders to support the initiative and contribute meaningfully to the hospital’s ongoing infrastructure development efforts.

“We urge staff, stakeholders, corporate bodies, and the general public to support this initiative and partner with us in advancing the hospital’s infrastructure development for improved healthcare delivery,” management stated.

During a visit by Veritas News to the project site shows that work is progressing very steadily, as some Residents were also engaged.

They expressed satisfaction with the project, noting that it will significantly improve the hospital’s capacity to handle emergency cases.

“The Emergency Ward is small and sometimes does not accommodate the number of patients during peak periods. We are grateful to Babylast for the support,” a resident stated.

Upon completion, the upgraded facility is expected to significantly improve the hospital’s capacity to respond to emergencies and strengthen its position as a secondary healthcare provider in the Southern Volta Region.
