Fernando Ruiz, the Columbian born Black Stars equipment manager is about to face an emotional test this Weeknd when Ghana plays Columbia in the round 32 game of the ongoing FIFA World Cup.

Ghana’s head coach, Carlos Queiroz, reunited with his longtime colleague Fernando Ruiz by appointing the Colombian as the team’s official kit and equipment manager for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The pair’s professional relationship dates back to 1996 at MetroStars FC in the United States, where Queiroz served as head coach while Ruiz worked as the club’s ball and equipment manager.

Nearly three decades later, the two are working together again as part of Ghana’s World Cup campaign.

Ruiz could face an emotional moment if Ghana meets his native Colombia in the Round of 32 on July 4, with his professional duties to the Black Stars set against his national ties.
