Mr Felix Akonta Akakpo, known traditionally as Togbi Tenuvi II, youth development chief of Aflao Traditional Area, has extended significant financial and material support to the Volta Regional Football Association (VRFA) as the region’s football community reaches the climax of the 2026 Middle League at the Ho Sports Stadium this afternoon.

The gesture, which forms part of his commitment to sports development in the Volta Region, includes a cash donation of GHS 23,000, two sets of jerseys, trophies, medals, and four footballs to support the smooth organisation and competitiveness of the tournament.

Under the arrangement, the champions of the Middle League will receive GHS 10,000, one set of jerseys, and two footballs, while the second-placed team will take home GHS 5,000, one set of jerseys, and two footballs. Additional individual and institutional awards have also been provided to recognize outstanding performances and support stakeholders involved in the competition.

Individual accolades will see the Best Player, Best Goalkeeper, and Top Scorer each receiving GHS 1,000 alongside a trophy. In addition, the Volta Regional Football Association will receive GHS 5,000, while the Volta Sports Writers Association has been allocated GHS 2,000 in separate support packages.

Speaking on his motivation, Mr. Akonta expressed confidence that his contribution would help ease the financial burden on clubs while enhancing the overall quality of football in the region.

“I trust this support will help ease the financial burden on clubs and contribute to higher standards of the sport,” he stated.

He further emphasised the importance of youth development and infrastructure investment as key pillars for sustainable football growth in the Volta Region.

“Football in the region must be geared towards developing young footballers and creating opportunities for their progress. I believe that by coming together, we can achieve this vision. Improving sports infrastructure across the Volta Region should now be our paramount goal, and I pledge to support efforts aimed at providing facilities that can aid talent identification and development in my own small way,” he added.

Mr. Akonta also commended the leadership of the Volta Regional Football Association, led by Mr Daniel Agbogah, for its consistent efforts in strengthening the standards of regional football and building a foundation for future success.

As part of his engagement, Mr Akonta is expected to attend the final match later today, where he will officially congratulate the two finalists, Nukunu Sports Academy and Oti Warriors, for their impressive journey to the final stage of the competition.

The 2026 Middle League final is expected to attract strong public interest as stakeholders continue to advocate for increased investment and development in grassroots football across the Volta Region.
