Madam Florentine Adjoa Ansah-Asare, Country Director of Edify Ghana, has called for a transformative shift in Ghana’s education system, emphasising the need for increased investment, strong value formation and improved learning outcomes to prepare learners for the demands of a rapidly changing society.
She said education remained one of the most powerful instruments for national transformation and human development, but its ability to deliver meaningful impact depended on deliberate investments in quality policies, teacher development, infrastructure and the holistic development of learners.
Speaking at an educational stakeholders’ conference organised by Bambiland Montessori School at Aborigines Beach Hotel at Keta, in the Volta Region, Madam Ansah-Asare, who was one of the guest speakers, urged education policymakers and stakeholders to prioritise the integration of Christ-centred values into the training of the next generation of leaders.
“Christ-centred values must be promoted in our schools. Values such as integrity, hard work and discipline must be prioritised because they shape responsible citizens and future leaders,” she said.
The conference, held on the theme “Repositioning Education for National Development: Addressing Emerging Challenges for Sustainable Impact,” formed part of the activities marking the 10th anniversary celebration of Bambiland Montessori School.
Several speakers at the conference also underscored the need to reposition education to meet society’s evolving demands, highlighting the importance of promoting sustainable environmental practices, addressing the impacts of climate change, and strengthening positive student behaviour and the development of values.
Madam Florentina stressed that beyond academic excellence, schools must serve as centres for character formation, where learners acquire values and life skills needed to contribute meaningfully to society.
She also highlighted the critical role of teachers in achieving sustainable educational transformation, describing them as the backbone of the education ecosystem.
“Teachers are the most important people in our education ecosystem; that is why we must add value to them,” she said.
She called for increased investment in teachers through continuous professional development programmes, access to modern teaching resources and the creation of supportive working environments to improve teaching effectiveness and learner outcomes.
Touching on student learning outcomes, she said that education stakeholders must continually evaluate whether the knowledge and skills being taught in schools align with the changing economic, social, and political needs of society.
She explained that asking critical questions about the purpose of education and its relevance to national development would enable schools to produce graduates equipped with the competencies, values and creativity required to address contemporary challenges.
The conference brought together education practitioners, policymakers, school administrators, parents and other stakeholders to deliberate on strategies for improving the quality, relevance and sustainability of education in Ghana.
Participants included heads of schools, teachers and students from Keta Senior High Technical School, Anlo Senior High School, Keta Business College, Anlo Technical Institute, Keta SHTS Basic School, Dzelukofe RC Basic School and other schools within the area.
Madam Amsah-Asare commended the leadership of Bambiland Montessori School for its commitment to providing quality and transformative education, urging other educational institutions and stakeholders to emulate the school’s approach in nurturing well-rounded learners.
She noted that institutions such as Bambiland were playing a vital role in complementing the government’s efforts towards improving education delivery and shaping the future of children.
