Tragedy Strikes Tadzewu as Young Girl Drowns in Stream

Tadzewu (V/R), July 2026

A young girl has tragically drowned in a stream at Dadame, a community within the Tadzewu Electoral Area of the Ketu North Municipality.

Mr Lawson Teve, a Unit Committee Member for the Tadzewu Electoral Area, said he received a distress call on Sunday, July 19th 2026 and rushed to the scene shortly after the incident.

He said preliminary accounts from eyewitnesses indicated that the girl had gone to the stream with two other persons when she reportedly jumped into the water and failed to resurface.

“Before nearby residents could respond to the calls for help, she had already disappeared beneath the water,” he said.

The deceased, identified as Edoe Dedzo according to residents, was the daughter of the late Midaekpe of Tadzewu.

The Police were subsequently informed and retrieved the body with the help of other community members, which has since been conveyed for further examination and investigations.

The incident has thrown the community into mourning, with residents gathering at the scene in shock and grief over the sudden loss.

The exact circumstances surrounding the drowning remain unclear, as police investigations continue to establish the events leading to the tragedy.

Authorities and community leaders have urged residents, especially children, to exercise caution around water bodies to prevent similar incidents.
