The Anlo Dukor Council, in consultation with the Palace of the Awoamefia of Anlo kingdom, has announced a ban on drumming and all forms of noise-making across the Anlo Traditional Area in anticipation for this year’s annual Hogbetsotso Festival
This ban was formally communicated through an official statement signed by Togbi Agbesi Awusu II, Awadada of Anlo State and made available to Veritas News GH.
The ban is scheduled from Monday August 10 to Saturday August 29, 2026, and it forms part of preparations for the annual Hogbetsotso Festival.
The notice according Togbi Agbesi III, stated that the period allows for some very important customary rites to be performed to purify and santify the land before the festival is celebrated.
“This sacred observance is also aimed at reflection, purification, and the preservation of Anlo traditions for the betterment of all of us, and such must be strictly obeyed,” Awadada said
According to the letter, the ban prohibits drumming, loud music, outdoor musical performances, funeral celebrations involving noise, and any excessive amplified sound.
Residents, religious bodies, institutions, event organisers, visitors, and commercial business owners within the 36 towns of Anlo have been cautioned to strictly obey, with enforcement to be carried out by traditional taskforces in collaboration with local authorities and state security agencies.
Awadada told Veritasnewsgh.com that, the Festival planning committee will soon outdoor the series of activities and events to mark this year’s festival.
The annual Anlo-Hogbetsotso Festival is celebrated to commemorate the exodus of the Anlo (A sub group of the Ewe people) from Notsie(Togo) to present day Ghana as well as to showcase their rich and beautiful culture to the world.
