Anlo Floods: MP Richard Sefe Appeals for Urgent Support for Affected Communities

Shime-Anloga (Volta Region) June, 2026

The Member of Parliament for Anlo Constituency, Hon. Richard Kwame Sefe, has appealed to government agencies, corporate institutions, non-governmental organisations, philanthropic bodies, and benevolent individuals to provide urgent assistance to communities affected by recent flooding in the Anloga District.

Speaking on the situation, Hon. Sefe described the scale of devastation caused by the heavy rains as unprecedented in the district’s recent history, noting that several communities within the Shime-Kome area, including Sakome, Agorbledokui, Bleamezado, Dosukope, Devenu, Devegodo, and surrounding farmlands, have been severely affected.

According to the MP, the persistent rainfall has caused widespread destruction, leaving many families displaced and struggling to cope with the impact of the disaster. Numerous mud houses have collapsed, forcing residents from their homes and leaving many without safe shelter.

He noted that in some communities, affected residents have been compelled to use roadsides and other open spaces for their daily domestic activities due to the destruction of their homes.

Hon. Sefe further expressed concern over the extensive flooding of farmlands, warning that the disaster poses a significant threat to the livelihoods of farmers, household incomes, and food security in the affected communities.

“I have witnessed firsthand the suffering of our people and share in their pain. This is a difficult moment for many families who have lost property, sources of livelihood, and the comfort of their homes,” he stated.

The MP therefore called for immediate support in the form of relief items, temporary shelter, food supplies, clothing, bedding, and other essential necessities to alleviate the plight of affected residents.

“The resilience of the Anlo people has never been in doubt, but at this critical moment, we cannot overcome this challenge alone. I urge all well-meaning individuals, organisations, and institutions to support our communities as we work together to restore hope, relief, and dignity to those affected,” he appealed.

The appeal comes as residents continue to assess the extent of damage caused by the floods, with many calling for swift intervention to support recovery efforts and prevent further hardship in the affected communities.
