The Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams has disclosed that a court hearing on Canada’s visa denial for Black Stars Deputy Captain, Thomas Partey will take place today, Tuesday, June 16.
The hearing is expected to happen at 9am Eastern time.
The Minister disclosed in an interview on TV3’s Ghana Tonight, Monday, June 15 that the legal team representing Partey has pursued multiple avenues to challenge the decision affecting the player’s entry into Canada.
According to the Minister, all necessary legal documents have been filed ahead of the hearing.
“The court hearing is scheduled for tomorrow (Tuesday, June 16) 9 a.m. Eastern Time. The documentation and everything were filed so the hearing will be Tuesday morning,” he stated.
The Minister explained that the legal action currently before the court is based on three separate applications, each aimed at securing the player’s participation in the international tournament.
The applications include; an application for a review, application for a certain restricted entry and then also an application for a completely new consideration of the decision by Canada.
“I think we are very confident because the action that has been taken legally is on three fronts; asking for a review, asking for a certain restricted entry and then also an application for a completely new consideration,” he said.
The Minister expressed confidence that the court proceedings would pave the way for the player’s participation and enable Ghana to field one of its key players during the competition.
According to him, the multiple legal approaches increase the chances of obtaining a favorable outcome that would allow the Villareal midfielder to join his teammates.
“And so at least if you don’t get two or all three, you will get at least one or two granted and that will necessarily give him the opportunity to enter Canada to join his colleagues to do what he does best,” the Minister added.
He reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring that Partey is able to represent Ghana at the tournament, noting that both legal and diplomatic efforts remain ongoing.
The Thomas Partey entry issue has attracted significant public attention, with government officials, football authorities and legal representatives working to resolve the matter ahead of Ghana’s upcoming matches.
