Vui Assemblymember rallies residents to make the town the cleanest in Keta Municipality

Keta-Vui 9 August, 2025
The Assemblymember for the Vui Electoral Area, Mr. Widom Klu “Lion” Agbeko, has urged residents to fully embrace the National Sanitation Day initiative and work collectively to make their town the cleanest in the Keta Municipality.
Speaking during a massive communal labour exercise on Saturday, August 9, 2025, Mr. Klu emphasised that cleanliness is not just a government directive but a shared responsibility.
“We have the potential to set the standard for cleanliness in the entire municipality. If each household takes hygiene seriously, Vui will not only be cleaner but also healthier,” He told residents.
The clean-up exercise, which formed part of activities to mark the Municipal Sanitation Day, was held under the theme “A Clean Environment, One’s Responsibility.” It attracted more than 500 participants, including men, women, youth, and children, who came out in full force to clear overgrown weeds and de-silt drainage channels.
The drains, once clogged with debris, now allow wastewater to flow freely into the Keta Lagoon, a move aimed at reducing flooding in the area. Officials from the Keta Municipal Environmental Health Department were also on hand to support the exercise.
“A clean environment means fewer diseases, better fishing, and a more attractive community for visitors,” Mr. Klu added, noting that sanitation has a direct link to the livelihoods of the people.
The Vui Electoral Area, situated along the Keta coast, encompasses Vui Township, Tetekope, Tettevikope, and Nukpesekope. The community shares boundaries with Tegbi to the west and Dzelukope to the east, and is known for its fishing, fishmongering, and trading activities.
Residents expressed satisfaction with the initiative and pledged to make sanitation a weekly habit rather than a once-a-month obligation.
According to Mr Klu Wisdom, he has organised about twelve communal labourers, including clean-ups, since he was elected as the Assembly member for the area during the December 2023 elections
Mr. Klu assured that similar clean-up activities would be organised regularly to sustain the momentum.
