Ave-Afiadenyigba: Legetsi Clan Begins Customary Process to Install New Paramount Chief, Calls for Calm

The Legetsi Clan in Ave Afiadenyigba Area in the Akatsi North District has announced the commencement of customary processes leading to the installation of the next Paramount Chief of the Ave Afiadenyigba-Dzayime Traditional Area, while urging residents and stakeholders to remain peaceful and support the lawful succession process.
Addressing the media and members of the community at the Palace of Torgbui Fianu Gbordzekpor III at Gborxoxome, Ave Afiadenyigba, on Sunday, August 2, the Clan stated that the Paramount Stool remains vacant, stressing that no person has been duly installed and outdoored as Paramount Chief since the vacancy occurred.
Mr Emmanuel Amenyo, Clan Secretary, reading the Clan’s Press statement, said the Legetsi Clan, as the recognised royal clan under custom and tradition, is responsible for producing the Paramount Chief of the Traditional Area and that the customary succession process is currently underway.
He also explained that consultations with Torgbui Nuku Mortsi VIII, the Awadada of the Traditional Area, confirmed that no individual had been installed as Paramount Chief in accordance with customary practice.
“The necessary consultations and preparations for the requisite customary rites have commenced for the formal installation of Torgbui Fianu Gbordzekpor IV as the next Paramount Chief and President of the Ave Afiadenyigba-Dzayime Traditional Council,” Mr Amenyo stated.
He noted that the selection and installation of a Paramount Chief involve extensive consultations among the royal ten family, elders, principal family heads, kingmakers and other recognised customary authorities, describing the process as essential to preserving the integrity of the chieftaincy institution.
The Clan cautioned the public against recognising or conducting official business with any individual who may be claiming authority as Paramount Chief before the completion of the recognised customary processes. It said it would not accept responsibility for representations, agreements, land transactions, fundraising activities or customary decisions undertaken by persons without lawful customary authority.
Mr Amenyo further disclosed that formal petitions and notices had been submitted to the Ave Afiadenyigba-Dzayime Traditional Council, neighbouring traditional councils, the District Chief Executive, the District and Regional Security Councils, the Member of Parliament for Akatsi North and the Anlo Dukor Council and the Anlo Dukor Council.
According to the statement, the petitions seek to ensure that no person is recognised, registered, gazetted or accorded the status of Paramount Chief or representative of the Traditional Area unless duly nominated, selected and installed in accordance with the customs of the Legetsi Clan and the laws of Ghana.
Speaking on behalf of the Clan, Mr John Ahorgah, a key family head, appealed for calm and unity throughout the succession process.
“We remain committed to peace, unity and respect for customary law. We urge all citizens and indigenes to support the lawful customary process and refrain from any action capable of disturbing the peace,” he said.
Also addressing journalists, Mr Iliiasu Kwashie Zakari reaffirmed the Clan’s determination to complete all the required customary rites leading to the installation of the new Paramount Chief.
“We are committed to following every customary requirement, and we call on all natives of Ave Afiadenyigba-Dzayime to support the process to ensure a peaceful and successful installation,” he said.
The late Togbi Gbordzekpor Fianu III, Paramount Chief of the Ave Afiadenyigba-Dzayime Traditional Area and President of the Traditional Council, was buried in November 2025, paving the way for the customary processes to install his successor.
