President Mahama fires Director of Keta Port

Mahama Dismisses Director of Keta Port Project Amidst Stalled Development
President John Dramani Mahama has removed Dr. Alexander Adusei from his role as Director of the much anticipated Keta Port project, which has faced significant delays since its inception.
Dr. Adusei, appointed in 2019 during the administration of former President Nana Akufo-Addo, was entrusted with the role of overseeing the development of the port located at Kedzi-Keta in the Keta Municipality in the Volta Region.
While the exact reasons for his dismissal have not been made public, it is widely speculated that the lack of progress on the much-anticipated project was a contributing factor to his removal.

In 2018, the government of Akufo-Addo declared Keta as the designated location for the port, backed by an Executive Instrument, with the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) assigned to manage its development. However, despite this announcement, little has been done to advance the project, leaving many in the Volta Region frustrated.
During the 2024 election campaign, John Mahama aimed at the previous administration, accusing them of squandering an important opportunity, noting that after eight years, no physical structures had been constructed for the port.
He indicated his commitment to the project saying he will direct the relevant institutions involved to audit all activities of the project so far and commence works.
In August 2024, six private investors showed interest in collaborating with the government on the project, but no concrete agreements have been finalised meanwhile the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recently published the Environmental Impact Assessment report on the feasibility studies conducted.
Work on the construction of an administration block is currently ongoing at the project site in Kedzi-Agorta, Keta
