Somè Traditional Council Launches GH¢5m Drive for Office Complex as Regional Minister Supports Project with Donation

The Somè Traditional Council has launched a GH¢5 million fundraising campaign to support the construction of an ultra-modern administrative complex to serve as its institutional headquarters.

The initiative, which is expected to be achieved within six months, was announced by Torgbiga Adamah III, Paramount Chief of the Somè Traditional Area and President of the Somè Traditional Council, during the grand durbar of Somètutu Za 2026 held over the weekend.

As part of the initiative, Torgbiga Adamah III inaugurated a seven-member fundraising committee comprising distinguished citizens and stakeholders of the Traditional Area to mobilise financial, material and technical support for the project.

According to the Paramount Chief, the proposed facility would provide a dignified and functional administrative centre for the effective management of traditional affairs while strengthening the Council’s capacity to serve the people and coordinate development initiatives.

“This project is not simply about putting up an office building; it is about creating a dignified and functional institutional home for the Somè Traditional Council and strengthening our capacity to serve our people,” Torgbiga Adamah III said.

He appealed to citizens of Somè, businesses, corporate institutions, government agencies, development partners and friends of the Traditional Area, both in Ghana and abroad, to support the project.

Contributions, he said, could come in the form of financial resources, building materials, professional expertise and technical support, stressing that every genuine contribution would help advance the project.

“I therefore call on the sons and daughters of Somè, corporate institutions, development partners and friends of our Traditional Area to support this initiative. Every contribution, whether financial, material or technical, will bring us closer to achieving our GH¢5 million target,” he said.

The fundraising committee has been tasked with mobilising the required resources and achieving the GH¢5 million target within six months.

Torgbiga Adamah III assured prospective contributors that the Traditional Council would ensure that funds raised were properly documented, responsibly managed and transparently accounted for.

Regional Minister Supports Project

The Volta Regional Minister, Mr James Gunu, who served as the guest of honour at the celebration, has supported the initiative with a donation of 100 bags of cement towards the construction of the proposed administrative complex.

The donation represents an early material contribution towards the project as the Traditional Council begins its six-month mobilisation drive to raise the GH¢5 million required for the facility.

Torgbiga Adamah III described the proposed complex as an important investment in the institutional development of the Traditional Area, noting that a well-equipped administrative facility would enhance the Council’s ability to manage traditional affairs and support development coordination.

He said the development of Somè required collective responsibility and urged citizens to look beyond individual interests and support initiatives capable of creating lasting benefits for present and future generations.

Beyond the administrative project, Torgbiga Adamah III identified limited access to potable water, coastal erosion, inadequate public facilities and environmental degradation among the major challenges requiring coordinated intervention.

He called for collaboration among the Traditional Authority, local government, central government, the private sector and development partners to address the challenges and accelerate development in the area.

The Somètutu Za 2026 celebration therefore provided not only a platform to showcase the history, culture and identity of the Somè people, but also an avenue to mobilise collective support for the Traditional Area’s institutional and socio-economic development.
