Prof. Godfred A. Bokpin says Ghana’s response to climate change should be treated as an economic priority, not just an environmental issue.
At the workshop for journalists, he argued that the country needs concessionary financing and expert support to deal with coastal erosion, flooding and environmental degradation.
He said facilities such as the IMF’s Resilience and Sustainability Facility could help Ghana address these risks in a more structured way.
Prof. Bokpin warned that delaying action will make the cost of fixing the problem even higher. He described Ghana as still being in a recovery phase under the IMF programme and said the country should take advantage of available support to build long-term resilience.
