Bashiru Isak’s Body Arrives in Ghana After Xenophobic Killing in South Africa

The mortal remains of Bashiru Isak, the Ghanaian national killed during the recent xenophobic attacks in South Africa, have arrived in Ghana, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed.

The body was received by government officials and family at the Accra International Airport on Tuesday, July 14, at 6:40 p.m. before being conveyed to the 37 Military Hospital.

The Government of Ghana has also called on South African authorities to expedite investigations into the fatal shooting in Cape Town and ensure those responsible are brought to justice. It stressed that there must be no room for silence, delay, or any attempt to cover up the circumstances surrounding the killing.

The ministry confirmed that the deceased, who was fatally shot multiple times in Khayelitsha, a suburb of Cape Town, was Bashiru Isak, describing him as “a law-abiding and loving father of three.”

The government and Mr. Isak’s family have agreed to conduct an independent autopsy after Ghana’s High Commission in Pretoria and the family were unable to obtain an autopsy report from South African authorities
