Ghana midfielder Thomas Partey will miss the Black Stars’ opening FIFA World Cup match against Panama in Toronto after being denied entry into Canada.
FIFA confirmed that the 32-year-old, who is part of Ghana’s World Cup squad, will be unable to travel from the team’s base in the United States to Canada for the June 17 fixture. FIFA noted that visa decisions are solely the responsibility of host governments and are outside its jurisdiction.
Partey joined the Ghana camp in the United States earlier this month and remains eligible for the Black Stars’ remaining Group L matches against England and Croatia, both scheduled to be played in the United States.
The Ghana Football Association has yet to comment on the development.
