Deputy EC Chair Bossman Asare resigns, Samuel Tettey retires

Deputy Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC) in charge of Corporate Affairs, Dr. Bossman Asare, has resigned, effective July 31, 2026.

The announcement was made by Government Spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu at the Government Accountability Series on Monday, June 15.

He also confirmed that the EC’s Deputy Chairperson in charge of Operations, Samuel Tettey, has retired from his position.

According to Mr. Kwakye Ofosu, Dr. Asare indicated in his resignation letter that he is stepping down to return to academia and continue his work at the University of Ghana.

He further noted that Dr. Asare expressed appreciation to the President and the people of Ghana for the opportunity to serve at the Electoral Commission.

Mr. Kwakye Ofosu added that processes to replace the two officials have already begun. He disclosed that a nominee has been forwarded to the Council of State for consideration.

He explained that once the Council of State completes its review, an official announcement will be made on the replacement for Mr. Tettey, followed by a separate process to fill the vacancy left by Dr. Bossman Asare.
