Akatsi:- Violent Land Dispute in Deti Leaves Two Injured; Police Detain Suspect
A violent confrontation linked to an alleged land dispute at Deti, a community in Akatsi of the Volta Region, has left two people injured and sparked retaliatory attacks that resulted in the destruction of property.
According to eyewitness accounts, the incident occurred during a dispute between a landlord and members of a family, during which a suspect popularly known as Mensah allegedly pulled out a firearm and opened fire.
Two siblings, identified as Mr. James Kpanda, 45, and his younger brother Jonathan Kpanda, believed to be in his 30s, sustained gunshot and related injuries during the altercation.
Mr. James Kpanda is reported to have sustained a gunshot wound to the knee, while Jonathan Kpanda suffered a severe eye injury.
The injured persons are currently receiving treatment at the Akatsi Municipal Hospital.
The incident triggered significant unrest in the community, with angry youth reportedly storming the suspect’s residence in retaliation.
Properties including a residential building, a Mercedes-Benz private vehicle, three motorbikes were set ablaze
The situation has since heightened tension in the area, with residents calling for swift justice and increased security intervention to prevent further escalation.
However, the Ghana Police Service is yet to issue an official detailed statement on the incident, including the exact circumstances surrounding the shooting.
Authorities are expected to intensify investigations to establish the full facts of the case and restore calm to the affected community.
