Anlo marks Togbi Adeladza II’s legacy with calls for unity and shared development

The 28th anniversary commemoration of the late Togbi Adeladza II, the 15th Awoamefia of Anlo State, has been marked with glowing tributes to his enduring legacy and renewed calls for unity and shared development across Anloland.
The event, held at his residence in Anloga on Saturday, 16th August 2025, eulogised the late Awoamefia, born Mr. Fred Kofi Adzinku, for his visionary leadership and contributions to education, health, and cultural identity.
Togbi Adeladza II, who reigned from 1957 until his passing in 1997, is remembered for initiating landmark projects including the Anlo Technical Institute (ANTECH), Anlo Secondary School, the Keta-Anloga-Dabala highway, and the Anlo Health Centre.
He is also credited with institutionalising the Hogbetsotso Festival in 1962, a cultural celebration that continues to unite the Anlo people.
Other projects included the Keta By-Water project from Sogakofe through Anloga to Keta, among others
In an exclusive interview with some chiefs and family members, they expressed high hopes for a great transformation in Anlo if all traditional rulers unite, irrespective of their differences, saying that it would be the best tribute to Togbi Adeladza’s legacy to build on his vision for progress.
According to them, Anlo must regain its glory and status in areas of education and national status. They lamented how the standard of education is falling in Anlo, as well as the increase in social vices among the youth.
Mama Amegbe II of Anyanui called on the youth to embrace the love for education, saying it is the only vehicle to self development and community progress,
“Education, for that matter, quality education cannot be downplayed; it will not only develop you as an individual, but it will go a long way to transform the entire community…our young girls must focus on their studies devoid of falling for peer influence amid hard situations,” Mama Amegbe advised
She then called on the authorities to prioritise sensitisation programs for the youth in the area to curb the high rise of social vices such as drug abuse, robbery and others
Togbi Xemalordzo Dedu II, Dufia of Atito, who also served as the Chairman of the occasion, urged traditional leaders and stakeholders to close their ranks, stressing that only unity could pave the way for collective development.
“We must set aside divisions and champion projects that will benefit the entire Anlo-Keta area. That is how we honour the memory of Togbi Adeladza II,” He declared.
The commemoration also served as a platform to renew the call for some key infrastructural projects, among which include upgrading ANTECH into a Technical University, upgrading the Anloga Clinic into a District Hospital.
Speakers noted that such a transformation would not only expand sectoral opportunities but also drive economic growth through job creation, commerce, and industry in the southern Volta Region.
Engr. Alex Kwaku Adzinku, son of the late Awoamefia, speaking on behalf of the family, expressed optimism that, by the 30th anniversary in 2027, tangible progress would have been made to transform key facilities
The event was attended by chiefs, queen mothers, and leaders of the Bate Clan, who all joined in celebrating the legacy of Togbi Adeladza II, who they touted as a unifier, reformer, and champion of development for the Anlo people in his time.
Togbi Sape Agbo V, Bate Fia of Denu, Togbi Azameti III of Avenor-Nogokpo, Togbi Normegbor II, Mama Wui Amegashie III of Keta, Mama Dzutsi IV of Anloga and other traditional rulers were among the attendies.
