Bomigo community gets an electricity boost through a solar power initiative

Bomigo, Anloga District
In a significant stride toward bridging the energy gap in underserved communities, the island community of Bomigo in the Anloga District has received a major boost in access to electricity through the distribution of solar lights to over 100 households.
The initiative, which saw the presentation of 101 solar lights, was led by the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Anloga, Hon. Sandra Seyram Kpedor, who served as the Guest of Honour at the brief but impactful ceremony
The support was made possible through a partnership with Renewable Energy for Communities (REC), an organisation committed to expanding access to clean and sustainable energy solutions.
Bomigo, which is yet to be connected to the national electricity grid, has long grappled with energy challenges that limit household comfort, safety, and economic activities.
“This gesture is more than just lighting homes—it is about lighting up lives,” Hon. Sandra said during the presentation. “Access to electricity is a basic necessity, and we are grateful to REC for this timely intervention that empowers our people with a cleaner and safer source of energy.”
Residents of Bomigo expressed heartfelt gratitude, describing the donation as a transformative moment for the community. The solar lights are expected to reduce reliance on harmful fuel-based lamps, improve security, and extend productive hours after nightfall.
Some of the residents in the Bomigo community shared their excitement saying;
“We’ve lived in darkness for too long. These solar lights will change the way we live—our children can now study at night, and we feel safer already.”
The DCE reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to advocating for long-term solutions, including connecting Bomigo to the national grid, but emphasized that clean energy options like solar remain crucial in the interim.
