NGO launches project to strengthen health and rights of adolescents in Keta Municipality

HAVEDZI, Volta Region—Developers Net, a non-government organisation based in Keta has officially launched a new initiative to empower adolescents with vital knowledge and support. Dubbed the EmpowerPulse Project, the programme seeks to address critical challenges facing young people, including teenage pregnancy, gender-based violence, and limited access to sexual and reproductive health education.

The launch took place on Thursday at Havedzi Basic School, where the first phase of the initiative was rolled out with great enthusiasm and community support. The project is specifically designed to enhance the capacity of members of Adolescent Reproductive Health (ARH) Clubs and their patrons.

More than twenty patrons and heads of adolescents support clubs benefited from the launch workshop

It aims at intensive training and education on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV), human rights, advocacy, and positive role modeling.

The EmpowerPulse Project is strategically aligned with a broader adolescent development roadmap designed for the Keta Municipality by the Organisation. This roadmap was developed in partnership with major stakeholders, including the Ghana Health Service, Ghana Education Service, Ghana Enterprises Agency, and the National Youth Authority (NYA). Together, these agencies are working to combat pressing adolescent issues such as menstrual poverty, sexual abuse, and limited access to reproductive healthcare information.

A key figure at the launch was Ms. Mary Doamekpor, an advocate for youth development and a graduate student at the University of Iowa, USA.

“We are thrilled to kick off this transformative journey. Adolescents deserve accurate information, safe spaces, and supportive mentors. Through EmpowerPulse, we are not just educating, we are inspiring confidence, agency, and lifelong impact.” Ms. Doamekpor noted during her address.

Organizers are now calling on individuals, organisations, and community leaders to join the movement by sponsoring and supporting the expansion of EmpowerPulse to more schools across the municipality.

Mr Yona Keleku, Project Lead at Developers net outlined their vision for the project saying, “Our vision is clear, no adolescent should be left behind. With the right tools and support, every young person can grow up with dignity, confidence, and a strong sense of self-worth.”

As the EmpowerPulse Project continues to unfold, its champions hope it will serve as a model for community-led, youth-centred interventions that bring real change to Ghana’s coastal communities and beyond.

Developers Net is widely noted for their commitment to such projects and programs in the area geared towards the development and empowerment of adolescents to combat sexual abuses, teenage pregnancy, and promote adolescent rights
