Number 12: Accra High Court clears Kwesi Nyatakyi after 5 years

An Accra High Court Dismisses Case Against Kwesi Nyantakyi, Ending 5-Year Legal Battle
A high court in Accra has dismissed the case involving Mr Kwesi Nyantakyi, the former President of Ghana Football Association (GFA).
Her Ladyship Justice Marie-Louise Simmonds, who delivered the ruling came after the prosecution failed to present any witnesses throughout the trial.
All the five potential witnesses listed were unable to testify. The final witness, Anas Aremeyaw Anas, an investigative journalist, demanded to testify while wearing a mask, a matter which was denied and further delayed proceedings.
Since there were no evidence presented, the court determined there was insufficient ground to continue with the case.
A significant factor in the decision was the Court of Appeal’s ruling on January 30, 2025, which emphasised that a fair trial must be conducted within a reasonable timeframe.
The case was as result of an investigative exposé by Mr Anas Aremeyaw Anas, a piece which shook Ghana’s football environment and led to Nyantakyi’s resignation as GFA president some 6 years ago.
The dismissal of the case brings a close to the prolonged legal battle that has kept Ghana’s football leadership under intense scrutiny for years.
