Nurse, three children perish in fire outbreak at Gyinyase, Ashanti

A nurse and her three children, aged between 7 and 14 have lost their lives in a tragic fire in the Gyinyase area of the Asokwa Municipality in the Ashanti Region.
The victims, identified as Linda Agyemang, a nurse at Kumasi South Hospital, and her children, were asleep when the fire broke out in their three-bedroom apartment at around 3:30 a.m. on the dawn of Saturday February 8. Despite their cries for help, efforts to rescue them were unsuccessful.
A neighbor, Owusu George, recounted the harrowing experience saying; “My wife woke me up around 3:30 a.m. to tell me about the fire. I rushed outside and could hear the children screaming for help. we tried to break the door, but then we heard a loud explosion from the kitchen, likely a gas cylinder,”
According to him, the Fire service team later arrived around 4:30 a.m. but by that time, the fire had already claimed the lives of the family members.
The Ghana National Fire Service has since launched an investigation into the cause of the fire, and the remains of the victims have been taken to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) morgue for an onward autopsy.
The horrific situation have left the community is in shock, with family, friends and sympathizers mourning the devastating loss.
This tragic incident is part of a larger pattern of fires in the Ashanti Region, with over 100 incidents reported between January 1 and February 7, 2025, resulting in six fatalities.
