Mr Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Foreign Affairs Minister and Member of Parliament for North Tongu, has provided essential school supplies to 2,269 newly admitted Senior High School (SHS) students in the constituency as part of his annual educational support programme.
The initiative, which seeks to ease the financial burden on families and ensure that students begin their secondary education with basic necessities, saw each beneficiary receive a chop box, mattress and exercise books.
Female students were additionally provided with hygiene products, including tissues and sanitary pads, as part of efforts to support their well-being and enable them to participate fully in school without avoidable challenges associated with menstrual hygiene.
In a further intervention targeting students who commute to school daily, Mr Ablakwa donated bicycles to all 100 newly enrolled day students in the constituency, an initiative aimed at making their transportation to and from school.
The support forms part of the legislator’s annual tradition of assisting newly admitted SHS students in North Tongu, which he said had continued to grow in scope and impact over the years.
Mr Ablakwa described this year’s exercise as a “resounding success”, expressing delight at the opportunity to sustain the initiative and ensure that no student is left behind because of the inability of a family to provide basic school necessities.
He encouraged the beneficiaries to take advantage of the opportunity and remain committed to their education.
“Go make us proud,” he told the students.
The intervention is expected to provide immediate relief to beneficiary families while helping the students settle into their respective schools with some of the essential items required for their new academic journey.
