PASU celebrates Bernard Ahiafor as First Deputy Speaker of Parliament

The Past Students’ Union of Akatsi College of Education, (PASU) in the Volta Region has lauded Honourable Bernard Ahiafor, Member of Parliament for Akatsi South Constituency, on his recent appointment as the First Deputy Speaker of Ghana’s 9th Parliament.

In a congratulatory letter dated January 8, 2025, made available to Veritas News, PASU described Hon. Ahiafor’s elevation as a remarkable milestone reflecting his outstanding leadership, dedication, and the confidence placed in him by his constituents, political party, and the nation at large.

“Your appointment is a source of immense pride for the Akatsi South Constituency and an inspiration to young leaders across Ghana. We believe your tenure will exemplify the principles of diligence, equity, and integrity, fostering unity and progress in Parliament and the country as a whole,” the letter read.

The letter co-signed by PASU President Mr. Sylvester Tornyeavah, promised their support for Mr Ahiafor for a total development of the Constituency and that of the Institution as well.

They expressed optimism that his leadership would drive inclusive development and governance, setting a strong example for others to follow.

This achievement, hailed as a historic moment for both Hon. Ahiafor and the Akatsi South Constituency, underscores his reputation as a dedicated public servant committed to advancing both local and national interests. PASU’s congratulatory message reflects the pride and hope invested in his leadership by alumni and the broader community.

Mr Edmund Agbadza, Secretary of the Union in his exclusive interview with Veritas News said they have confidence in Mr Ahiafor’s leadership to uphold constitutionalism, rule of law and to promotion of Human Rights in Ghana’s new parliament.

Mr Bernard Ahiafor who is currently serving his fourth term in parliament got elected on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) during the 2013 bye-elections when Mr Edward Doe Adjahoe the then member of parliament was elevated as the speaker of the 6th Parliament.
