CAPE COAST, (Central Region) June, 2026
The National Peace Council has intensified efforts to promote religious tolerance and peaceful coexistence in Ghana’s second-cycle educational institutions by organizing a dissemination workshop on the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Religious Tolerance and Violence Prevention in Senior High Schools in Cape Coast.
The workshop formed part of the Council’s broader strategy to decentralize the implementation of the MoU and ensure that its provisions are effectively understood and adopted at the grassroots level. It brought together Municipal and District Directors of the Ghana Education Service (GES), headteachers of Senior High Schools, school chaplains, and Guidance and Counselling Coordinators from across the Central Region.

Participants were taken through the key provisions of the MoU and engaged in discussions on practical strategies for promoting interfaith harmony, preventing religious intolerance, and addressing violence and indiscipline within school communities. The sessions also highlighted the importance of collaboration among education stakeholders in fostering inclusive and respectful learning environments.
The National Peace Council reaffirmed its commitment to working with educational authorities and other stakeholders to build safe, tolerant, and peaceful schools across the country, emphasizing that nurturing mutual respect among students of different religious backgrounds is essential to national cohesion and sustainable peace.
