Atiavi community launches fundraising drive to light up Atiavi-Glime roads

Traditional authorities and community leaders of Atiavi in the Volta Region have launched a fundraising appeal to provide street lighting along the Atiavi-Glime Road, a project expected to improve safety, mobility, and socio-economic activities.

The appeal, spearheaded by the Council of Chiefs of Atiavi in collaboration with the Atiavi-Glime Development Association, the Assembly Member, Unit Committee Members, and opinion leaders of the Atiavi-Glime Electoral Area, aims to mobilise not less than GH¢20,500 to cover materials and labour for the installation of streetlights.

The chiefs, led by Torgbi Tsilli V and Torgbui Hatsu V, commended residents and indigenes for their consistent support of community development projects and appealed for renewed contributions to ensure the successful completion of the Glime lighting project.

According to organisers, the project is expected to be completed before the 2026 Easter holidays, a timeline they believe is achievable with collective effort from citizens at home and abroad.

Addressing the appeal, Dr Forgive Kwadamah, Assembly Member for the Atiavi-Glime Electoral Area, emphasised the importance of the project for community safety and development.

“The Glime Road serves as a major route for residents, traders and schoolchildren, especially during early mornings and late evenings. Providing street lighting will enhance security and reduce risks associated with night movement,” Dr Kwadamah said.

He expressed confidence in the community’s ability to deliver the project, citing past successes in executing larger initiatives through unity and shared responsibility.

Dr Kwadamah, on behalf of the chiefs, opinion leaders, and stakeholders, appealed to all citizens of Atiavi, including those living abroad, to contribute, stressing that no amount is too small and every contribution counts.

Detailed estimates of the project cost (GH¢20,500) have been made public to ensure transparency and accountability. Organisers are also seeking material support, including aluminium town cables, streetlights, labour, and transportation, to ensure the project’s success.

The organisers believe the completion of the Atiavi-Glime Road lighting project will enhance night-time visibility, promote economic activity, and improve the overall quality of life in the community.
