MP Gakpey Connects Three Communities to National Grid in Keta Municipality

The communities of Wenyagor, Alakpakofe and Agornugble in the Wego areas of the Keta Municipality have been connected to the national electricity grid for the first time.
The initiative marks a major milestone in their socio-economic development.
The ceremonial connection which took place on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, was facilitated through the efforts of the Member of Parliament for Keta, Hon. Kwame Dzudzorli Gakpey, in collaboration with the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition and the Keta Municipal Assembly.
Residents from the three communities gathered in jubilation as electricity was switched on, ending years of reliance on lanterns and other alternative sources of lighting.
The Community members described the development as “long overdue and life-changing.”
Speaking to the media at the ceremony, Mr Dzidzorli Gakpey said the extension of electricity to the communities was part of his commitment to ensuring inclusive development across the Keta Constituency.
“Access to electricity is not a luxury; it is a necessity for development. This intervention will create opportunities for small businesses, improve farming activities, enhance education, and ultimately improve the quality of life of our people.” Mr Gakpe said.
As a show of appreciation, the chiefs and people of the beneficiary communities presented the MP with a Batakadi in recognition of his efforts, while also commending the contractor for delivering quality work.

The Municipal Chief Executive for Keta, Hon. Wisdom Seade, urged residents to make responsible use of the new power supply to accelerate development.
“Electricity should be used as a tool for growth, If harnessed wisely, it will support education, entrepreneurship, and community advancement.” Mr Seade said
Residents expressed optimism that the availability of electricity would attract investment, reduce rural-urban migration, and open up new economic opportunities for the youth.
Wenyagor, Alakpakope and Agornugble which some of the hard to reach areas in the Keta Municipal begins a new chapter moving from years of darkness into a future filled with opportunity, productivity, and renewed hope.
Earlier, the Member of Parliament initiated a similar project for communities like Lawoshime, Mamime and Hagodzi all within the Wego area.
