The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has announced new tariff adjustments and enhanced digital renewal measures aimed at improving healthcare delivery and strengthening the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
The Volta Region Public Relations Officer of the NHIA, Mr Christopher Galenkui, disclosed that the revised tariffs are intended to increase payments made to accredited health facilities to enable them to provide quality healthcare services without imposing additional financial burdens on patients.
Speaking on the Hilz FM Morning Show, Mr Galenkui stressed that under the new arrangements, patients are not required to make out-of-pocket payments before receiving medical services, as the government has absorbed the associated costs and will reimburse service providers accordingly.
“The tariff adjustments are meant to support healthcare providers to deliver quality services while ensuring that patients do not pay out-of-pocket for services covered under the Scheme,” he explained.
He added that the intervention forms part of broader efforts by government and the Authority to strengthen the sustainability of the Scheme and restore public confidence in the national health insurance system.
Also speaking on the programme, Mr Emmanuel Avinu, the Regional Operations Manager of the NHIS, educated the public on the Mobile Renewal system, describing it as a key component of the Authority’s digital transformation agenda.
According to Mr. Avinu, the Mobile Renewal platform was introduced to ease the burden of travelling long distances to NHIS offices for card renewal and to improve access and convenience for subscribers nationwide.
“With the Mobile Renewal system, members can renew their NHIS cards from the comfort of their homes without travelling long distances,” he said.
He walked listeners through the renewal process and clarified that although the service is available to the general public, certain categories of members, including pregnant women and some indigent persons, are exempt from the automated mobile renewal process due to existing programme protocols.
