NPP Regional Elections: Makafui Woanyah Retained as Volta Regional Chairman

Ho (Volta Region) August 15 2026
Mr Makafui Kofi Woanyah has been retained as the Volta Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in a very intense contest on Saturday
Mr Woanyah defeated Mr Joseph Wallace Homenya, in Saturday’s Regional executive elections held at the Mawuli School Premises- Ho.
He polled 169 votes, while Mr Homenya polled 148 votes, giving the incumbent (Woanyah) a 21-vote margin.
Ahead of the contest, some party members had called for the retention of Woanyah, citing his contributions to the party’s development and electoral fortunes in the region. Others, however, had advocated for a change in leadership, arguing that the party needed a new approach to make it more attractive, unite its members and broaden its support base.
The contest was also affected by ongoing legal disputes, which resulted in some constituencies being injuncted from participating in the election. These included Keta, Anloga, Akatsi South and South Tongu.
