Member of Parliament for Ketu North, Eric Edem Agbana, has supported the Ketu North team ahead of the upcoming Volta Regional Inter-District Sports Festival with sports equipment and cash donations.
The donation, presented on his behalf at his constituency office at Dzodze, included jerseys for the boys’ and girls’ teams, two footballs, three sets of stockings, 40 pairs of athletic spikes and four boxes of pull-ups.
An amount of GH¢10,000 in cash was also donated to support the team’s final preparations, welfare during the festival and other logistical supports
Mr. Agbana said the support was intended to help the team prepare adequately and compete with confidence while proudly representing Ketu North.
He, however, called for a more sustainable and comprehensive approach to school sports, arguing that ad-hoc interventions alone cannot address the challenges facing sports development in schools.
“I have always maintained that these piecemeal interventions in school sports are not sustainable. Most schools lack the basic tools and facilities to train. Many of the districts struggled to even raise transportation costs for the participants,” he said.
The MP urged stakeholders to treat sports as an essential component of education, stressing that a stronger investment in school sports was necessary to develop athletes capable of competing successfully on the international stage.
He wished the Ketu North team success at the festival and encouraged the athletes to give their best in representing the district.
