The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is set to decide the future of Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz after reviewing his technical report on Ghana’s 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign.
The 73-year-old Portuguese coach, who was appointed on a short-term contract just weeks before the tournament to replace Otto Addo, guided Ghana to the knockout stage for the first time since the country’s historic quarter-final run in 2010.
Despite that achievement, speculation over Queiroz’s future has persisted following Ghana’s Round of 32 exit to Colombia national football team. While some fans have called for a coaching change, John Dramani Mahama has publicly urged the GFA to retain the former Real Madrid manager.
GFA Executive Council member Nana Oduro Sarfo said the coach’s future will be determined after the Executive Council reviews his technical report.
“Carlos Queiroz’s future will be decided after the GFA reviews his reports,” Sarfo told Asempa FM.
The Executive Council is expected to meet on Friday, July 31, with Queiroz’s report among the key agenda items.
Ghana opened their World Cup campaign with a 1-0 win over Panama, held England to a goalless draw, and lost 2-1 to Croatia before advancing to the Round of 32 as one of the best third-placed teams. Their campaign ended with a narrow 1-0 defeat to Colombia.
With the World Cup now over, the Black Stars will turn their attention to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in September, where they face Gambia, Ivory Coast and Somalia in Group C as they seek a return to the continental tournament after missing the previous edition.
