Anlo Kingdom Mourns Yaa Naa Abukari Mahama II, Celebrates Legacy of Peace and Unity

The Anlo Dukor (State) Council has expressed its deepest condolences to the Dagbon Kingdom following the passing of His Royal Majesty Yaa Naa Abukari Mahama II, describing his death as a significant loss to Ghana’s traditional institution and the nation as a whole.
In a condolence message issued by Togbi Agbesi Awusu II, on behalf of the Overlord of Anlo Dukor, the Chiefs, Queen Mothers, Elders, and the people of Anlo State, the Council said it received the news of the passing of the revered Dagbon monarch with profound sorrow.
The Council praised Yaa Naa Abukari Mahama II as an exceptional traditional leader whose reign was marked by wisdom, humility, courage, and a strong commitment to peace, unity, and national development.
“His departure represents a great loss not only to the Dagbon Kingdom, but also to Ghana’s chieftaincy institution and the nation as a whole,” the Anlo Dukor Council stated.
The Council used the moment to highlight the longstanding relationship between Anlo Kingdom and Dagbon Kingdom, noting that the bond between the two kingdoms, which predates the colonial era, has been built on mutual respect, cultural ties, trade, and shared aspirations for peace and progress.
It recalled with fond memories the participation of His Royal Majesty Yaa Naa Abukari Mahama II at the 2023 Anlo Hogbetsotso Festival Grand Durbar, describing the occasion as a historic moment that further strengthened the relationship between the two traditional areas.
“His Royal Majesty’s gracious presence at the 2023 Anlo Hogbetsotso Festival Grand Durbar remains a cherished moment that reaffirmed our collective responsibility to preserve Ghana’s rich traditional heritage,” the Council noted.
The Anlo Dukor Council extended its solidarity to the Royal Family, Chiefs, Elders, and the entire people of Dagbon during this period of mourning, praying for comfort and strength for all affected by the loss.
The Council further assured the Dagbon Kingdom of its continued support as it honours and preserves the enduring legacy of Yaa Naa Abukari Mahama II.
