The Keta Municipal Assembly has formally inaugurated the Municipal Association of Persons Living with Albinism (PLWA) to strengthen the voice and representation of persons living with such a disabilities in the municipality.
The inauguration, held on Tuesday at the Keta Municipal Health Directorate Conference Room, was organised by the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development-Keta
The inauguration proves the Assembly’s commitment to promoting disability inclusion, equal opportunities, and the protection of the rights of persons living with albinism.
The ceremony together officials of the Keta Municipal Assembly, the Municipal Health Directorate, members of the Disability Fund Management Committee, development partners, and other stakeholders who are committed to advancing inclusive development.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Robert Kotey Ashie, Unit Head of the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development, said
“The association would serve as a unified platform for persons living with albinism to advocate for their rights, access support services, and actively participate in leadership and decision-making processes, including future elections of the Ghana Federation of Disability Organisations (GFD).”
He described the formation of the association as a significant step towards strengthening the voice and representation of persons living with albinism within the municipality.
Also present were Mr. Saviour Agbeviade, representing the Municipal Coordinating Director, and Mr. Mensah Djadoo, Southern Volta Coordinator of the Ghana Association of Persons with Albinism (GAPA).
Participants received health education on skin care and eye protection before the executives and members of the newly formed association were officially sworn into office.
The speakers reaffirmed their collective commitment to fostering an inclusive municipality where persons with disabilities are valued, empowered, and provided with equal opportunities to participate fully in community development, in line with the principle of leaving no one behind.
