Volta FA Chairman calls for support to boost football development in Oti region

The Chairman of the Volta Regional Football Association (VRFA), Daniel Agbogah, has paid a courtesy call on the Oti Regional Minister, Hon. Gyapong Kwadwo, on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, in Dambai, the capital of the Oti Region.

The purpose of the meeting was to address the challenges of football development in the Oti Region and to propose initiatives aimed at unearthing young talent.

The meeting focused on strengthening the relationship between the Volta FA and the Oti Region—whose football programs fall under the jurisdiction of the Volta FA—and to introduce the various District FA leaders to the Regional Minister.

Chairman Agbogah was accompanied by his Vice Chairman, Mr. Caesar Heh.

During the meeting, Mr. Agbogah congratulated Hon. Gyapong on his appointment and formally introduced the leadership of the District FAs from Krachi East, Krachi West, Kadjebi, Biakoye, Nkwanta South, and Nkwanta North.

Among other issues discussed, the chairman updated the minister on the successes of football in the region and outlined plans for the upcoming inter-district juvenile championship for boys and girls under the ages of 17 and 15.

He also proposed the introduction of the Regional Minister’s Cup in the Oti Region—a tournament designed to foster unity and enable scouts to identify potential players.

Chairman Agbogah further highlighted the challenges facing football development in the region, including the lack of proper playing fields and insufficient office space and equipment for the District Football Associations (DFAs).

“Honorable, one of the significant challenges affecting the development of the game in the region is the absence of quality playing fields, making football development difficult,” he stated.

He appealed for government support through the minister to construct football fields across all districts in the Oti Region.

“We would be grateful if the government could assist us in building good football fields in each district in the Oti Region to enhance the development of the game,” he added.

In response, Hon. Gyapong commended the Volta FA and its executives for their good work in the region. Acknowledging the concerns raised by the FA chairman, he assured them of his commitment to engage with the various District Chief Executives (DCEs) of the Oti Region to seriously address the issues.

He reminisced about the golden days of football, which drew large crowds during his time as a football administrator.

Hon. Gyapong urged the regional FA leadership to work diligently to restore football’s former glory. He further advised the FA to encourage children’s participation in football from an early age—starting as young as nine—in order to nurture the best talent.

He was also briefed on why there are still ten regional FAs despite Ghana now having sixteen administrative regions, following his inquiry about why the Oti Region remains under the Volta FA.

The meeting concluded with plans to establish a committee to organize the Regional Minister’s Cup.
