Tragic News: Omane Boamah, Murtala Mohammed among 8 confirmed dead in helicopter Crash

Accra, Wed. August 6th
Ghana has been thrown into mourning following the confirmation of the deaths of two government ministers and six others in a tragic helicopter crash on Wednesday afternoon.
The Minister for Defence, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, and the Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, were confirmed dead alongside six others when a military helicopter conveying them was en route to Obuasi for a national event, crashed near Adansi Sakaman in the Ashanti Region
The news was officially announced by the Chief of Staff, Mr Julius Debrah, during an emergency press briefing held at the Jubilee House.
Other victims of the crash include: Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator, Dr. Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Samuel Aboagye, former NDC Parliamentary Candidate for Obuasi East, Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Analah, Flying Officer Twum Ampadu, Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah
The helicopter reportedly took off from Accra at approximately 0900 hours GMT, heading for Obuasi to attend a national event. According to earlier updates from the Ghana Armed Forces, the aircraft went off radar shortly after takeoff. Hours later, eyewitness accounts and emergency teams confirmed the crash, with the helicopter found burnt beyond recognition.
The Chief of Staff, Mr. Debrah, in his announcement, declared that all national flags should be flown at half-mast in honour of the distinguished public servants and military personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty.
Government has assured the nation of a full investigation into the cause of the crash and extended its deepest condolences to the bereaved families and the people of Ghana.
