Togbi Adama III appeals to Mahama to resolve Agbozume water crisis and township roads.

Agavedzi, (V/R), July 2025

Togbi Adama III, the Paramount Chief of the Somey Traditional Area in the Ketu South Municipality, has made a passionate appeal to President John Dramani Mahama to urgently intervene in the protracted water crisis plaguing the people of Agbozume and surrounding communities.

Togbi Adama appealed during a public address at the ground-breaking ceremony of the Blekusu Phase 2 Sea Defence Project held at Agavedzi on Saturday, July 19th

According to the traditional ruler, residents of Agbozume have endured severe water shortages for the past three years after a major flood disaster disrupted the area’s pipe-borne water system and made it unusable.

“Our people have been suffering for far too long without access to safe drinking water. It is a basic necessity that has become a luxury in Agbozume.” Togbi lamented.

He lamented the impact the water crisis continues to have on health and sanitation in the area, calling it a “silent emergency” that demands immediate government attention.

According to Him, residents have to pay huge sums of money for water to be transported from nearby towns for their domestic and commercial usage, a situation he described as burdensome and needs a quick solution.

Veritas News investigations reveal that communities within the Agbozume and its suburb areas, such as Sukladzi, Somey SHS, Ativuta, Nogokpo and others have been suffering from such water problems for years now.

Residents who spoke to veritasnewsgh.com reiterated Togbi’s plea and call for restoration of the pipe-borne water system to make life easier for them

In addition to the water challenge, Togbi Adama appealed to President Mahama to consider the construction of township roads within the Somey Traditional Area, especially those in Agbozume, which He said were also destroyed as a result of the flooding that occurred.

He described the roads as being in deplorable condition, further compounding the daily struggles of residents.
“We are not asking for much, just the basic infrastructure to uplift our people,” He added.

The ceremony, which marked the official commencement of the second phase of the Blekusu Sea Defence Project, drew traditional leaders such as Togbi Amenya Fiti V, Paramount Chief of Aflao traditional Area among other, political figures including District Chief Executives, Ministers of state and top NDC executives, and community members, all hopeful that development efforts would soon reach other pressing needs in the area.

The Sea Defence project itself is expected to bring some relief to coastal dwellers of Blekusu, Agavedzi, Salakope and Amutinu facing the constant threat of tidal waves, but community leaders are insisting that broader development concerns like water and roads must not be left behind.
