Dr. Bawumia, Address the Teacher Trainees’ Allowance Issue or Face the Consequences in the Upcoming Elections”
We, the concerned teacher trainees from the 46 colleges of education in Ghana, are writing to bring to your attention a pressing issue that has been affecting us for months. Our allowances have been delayed, leaving us in financial distress as we are owed about six months of unpaid arrears. This situation has become even more critical with just a few days left before the Presidential and Parliamentary General Election on December 7.
Recently, a nursing trainee shared with SatelNews Gh that they were paid 1,200.00 cedis at the beginning of last month, November, and 800.00 cedis last week Thursday. This indicates that they were paid twice in November 2024, yet teacher trainees have faced a dry spell of six months without payment. This inconsistency in payment is not only frustrating but also undermines the morale and dedication of teacher trainees who are the future educators of our nation.
We urge you, as the Vice President and the flagbearer of the ruling National Patriotic Party (NPP), to address this issue promptly. Failure to resolve this matter before December 7 may lead to a significant number of teacher trainees voting against your party.
We believe in the importance of education and the role of teacher trainees in shaping the future of our country. It is our hope that you will prioritize our concerns and ensure the timely payment of our allowances.
We look forward to your prompt response and action on this matter. The future of our education system and the well-being of teacher trainees depend on it.
