Salam Mustapha hails NPP’s rejection of youth age cap reduction

The National Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Salam Mustapha, has expressed satisfaction with the party’s decision to reject a proposed amendment that sought to lower the age ceiling for youth membership from 40 to 35 years.

The proposal, which sparked intense debate during the party’s National Delegates Conference, aimed to redefine the age category of “youth” within the NPP — a move many believed could significantly reshape the structure and influence of the party’s youth wing.

Speaking in an exclusive interview on the Channel One Newsroom on Sunday, July 20, Salam Mustapha disclosed that he had been a strong opponent of the amendment and had actively campaigned against it.

“I am very happy because I led the revolt against it. And I think I succeeded, so I feel very happy that the youth wing remains as it is. Hopefully, though, there are one or two other proposals that seek to add emphasis to the youth wing. So by and large, I think I am very happy with the outcome of the conference,” he said.

He explained that maintaining the current age limit helps sustain the momentum and achievements of the party’s youth front.

According to him, a reduction in the age ceiling would have unfairly excluded many energetic and experienced members who have contributed significantly to the youth wing’s growth in recent years.
