Roads Minister inaugurates committee to review axle load operations

Mr Governs Kwame Agbodza, the Minister for Roads and Highways, has inaugurated a five-member committee to investigate the operations of Axle Load Control Programme in the country.

This initiative aims at enhancing efficiency and address operational challenges, including the enforcement of regulations and management of collected levies and fines.

Membership of this committee comprises of representatives from National Security, the Ghana Highway Authority, the Ministry of Transport, the Ghana Standards Authority, and private haulage operators.

The Ministry has identified the overloading of heavy cargo vehicles as a key factor in the premature deterioration of road infrastructure and increased traffic accidents. In response, the government is committed to mitigating the issue to ensure the longevity of road pavements and enhance overall road safety.

The committee is tasked to identify systemic reforms and provid recommendations to improve axle load management.
