Nominations open for 2025 Mama Hogbe: search for Anlo’s next cultural queen begins

The Organising Committee for the 2025 edition of the Mama Hogbe Beauty Pageant has officially opened nominations for this year’s competition, inviting young Anlo women to take part in one of the most celebrated cultural events in the Volta Region.

The nomination period, which runs until Friday, 17th October 2025, provides an opportunity for interested ladies aged between 18 and 32 to submit their entries and begin their journey toward becoming cultural ambassadors of the Anlo people.

According to Mr Jonathan Kofi Kumordzi, the vice president of the committee in charge of coordination, this year’s edition promises to be one of the most outstanding in recent years.

“We have made significant improvements to the structure, partnerships, and experiences around the pageant, Contestants and the public should expect a memorable celebration of beauty, culture, and purpose.” Mr Kumordzie said

Auditions for the pageant will take place on the following day, followed by an official unveiling ceremony on Sunday, 19th October, to be broadcast live on Ewe24 Television.

The unveiling will serve as the formal introduction of the contestants to the Anlo community and the general public.

Madam Grace Etornam, one of the Contestants’ Coordinators, also shared her excitement with the media, noting that this year’s competition will be exceptional.

“The calibre of young women who have shown interest so far is impressive. We are confident that this year’s pageant will reflect the strength, intelligence, and beauty of Anlo womanhood,” Mad. Grace remarked.

Beyond the glitz and glamour, Mama Hogbe Pageant serves as a platform to groom young Anlo women into impactful community leaders and cultural ambassadors.

The eventual winners become a symbol of empowerment, championing causes in education, tourism, health, cultural promotion, and social change across the Anlo State and beyond.

Mr Jonathan Kumordzie hinted that winers this year will receive exciting awards like cash, electrical appliances, souvenirs, and possibly, travel opportunities, among other benefits.

As the call for entries continues, many are eager to see who will rise to wear the coveted crown this year not just as a queen of beauty, but as a voice of purpose and pride for Anlo youth.

Records available to Veritas News prove that previous and current winners have embarked on social projects, including the distribution of Educational materials like exercise books, life jackets to pupils living in water-locked areas, donations of Sanitary products and youth forums to educate adolescents in remote Anlo areas, among other projects.
