NUGS to partner with Mama Hogbe to donate life jackets to pupils in Shime
The office of the Secretary for Societies and Welfare of the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) is in partnership with the Mama Hogbe Beauty Pageant 2024 initiative to embark on a project to impact some lives within the Kome-Shime area in Anloga District of the Volta Region.
The project dubbed; “The Study with Ease Project 3.0” is an initiative aimed at supplying swimming vests or life jackets to some school pupils within the water-logged areas of Shime who have to cross rivers and streams before attending school every day.
Veritas News investigations prove that pupils in communities such as Penyito, Nyakpati and its surrounding communities have to cross the Nyakpati and Gorve streams before attending school at Benadzi D/A Primary School, a situation that puts their lives in danger hence they need the necessary attention to protect their lives.
The donation ceremony which was earlier scheduled for Friday 22nd November was postponed Thursday 28th November 2024 at the Benadzi D/A Primary School due to inter-school sports festival held by schools in the area the handing over ceremony of the Union over the weekend.
The moment will also allow the team to interact with the pupils to inspire them to study hard despite any challenge they face in commuting to school.
Miss Lawrencia Pinamang, outgone Secretary for Societies and Welfare, NUGS National, said she chose such a project “Because it is not the fault of these young ones to be found in those deprived areas, therefore we cannot abandon them to their fate, we must protect them from commuting to school with ease”
Miss Stella Sewonumafe Sodzi, 2nd Runner-up, Mama Hogbe Pageant, who is a native of Kome reiterated the importance of such an initiative saying
“The trauma attached to the experience of crossing the river every day to study is terrible…On behalf of my other Queens, 2024 contestants and the pageant management, we are very much grateful for this partnership and we hope after the donation, the pupils will now be ready to attend school without any fear for their lives,”
About forty pupils aged between four to fifteen years have to cross the Gorve and Nyakpatsi streams to school or embark on other activities at Benadzi every day. The donation will help reduce the risk of any water accidents the experience comes with.
