Mr Gabriel Tanko fully funds borehole project for Sokode Ando Community

Ho, Volta Region – July 2025

The Volta Region’s representative on the Council of State, Mr. Gabriel Kwamigah Tanko Atokple, has pledged GHC 60,000 to fully finance a mechanised borehole project for the Sokode Ando community in the Ho Central Municipality.

The announcement was made during the 5th Anniversary celebration of the Volta College Foundation (VCF), where Mr. Tanko served as the Special Guest of Honour.

The donation, aimed at addressing the urgent lack of potable water in the Sokode Ando area, forms part of Mr. Tanko’s broader agenda to improve access to basic social amenities in underserved communities across the Volta Region. The targeted beneficiary includes the local health centre, which currently operates without any access to clean water, a situation described as unacceptable by the Council of State member.

“Safe drinking water is not a luxury; it is a necessity. I pledged to cover the full cost of the water project for the people of Sokode Ando.”

The donation coincided with a fundraising drive held by the VCF during its anniversary event to support the same water project. Mr. Tanko’s gesture not only significantly advanced the initiative but also highlighted his commitment to grassroots development and sustainable progress in the region.

In his address, Mr. Tanko praised the Volta College Foundation for its structured and impactful work since its inception in 2019. He commended the Foundation’s alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in areas such as clean water, education, and community well-being.

“What I found particularly striking was the deliberate alignment of the Foundation’s initiatives with the SDGs. This reflects a clear sense of purpose and a results-oriented approach to creating long-term impact,” he said.

He further applauded the Foundation’s consistent efforts in advancing development and social change across both the Volta and Oti Regions, describing its work as a “genuine reflection of concern for community welfare.”

The Sokode Ando water project, when completed, is expected to significantly improve the quality of life in the area by providing reliable access to clean, safe water for both domestic and health service use.

Mr. Tanko’s pledge is part of a wider effort by the Council of State member to initiate similar interventions across all districts in the Volta Region, in line with his development priorities and the national agenda for inclusive growth.

The foundation in their appreciation spirit presented a citation to Mr Tanko in recognition of his meritorious contributions to the development of the Region

The Volta College Foundation has since expressed its appreciation for the timely support, noting that it marks a major milestone in its mission to address critical development needs through partnership and community engagement.
